GoDaddy Server – SSH Help using Putty Bash Command Line for Linux

GoDaddy Server : GoDaddy Server make lots of feature complicated using Server Control Panel. If you want to maintain backup or specially if its large website or want to download from your GoDaddy server, Its take huge time to manage as beginner server administrator.

Lets think you want to backup your website what you will do? No Backup tools. GoDaddy made it quite impossible for user.
Do you want  download using FTP ? That was long time ago..!!!
You can’t make even zip file for than 20mb, This is just one example of lots of issue. But if you can use SSH you can see GoDaddy server is best for your needs. Specially you can save lots of time.  Here I will describe some important and common bash command for GoDaddy Linux Server using Putty SSH client to access your Linux dedicated or virtual dedicated server. You can also use same command line for other Linux server.

How to connect with your server using Putty SSH Client?
Open Putty SSH Client

Type your host name or IP address you can find it in GoDaddy server control panel. After open Putty SSH Client ask you for user name and password. Specially its same as your server control panel user name and password.

Lets think your host name is: myhostdotcom
User name is: myusername
Password:  Putty will ask you for password for keyboard  interactive authentication. (You can’t see password while you type so Make sure its correct)
If your hostname, user name and password is correct you login in root of the server.

So you need to know what is Absolute Hosting Path of your server. You can find it also server control panel.
Example GoDaddy Path:  /www/content/87890/68407190/html

To enter in your hosting path you need to use cd command, for above hosting path command line will be:
cd  /www/content/87890/68407190/html

Once you enter in your publich_html or www folder use ls command for see list of files and folder. Here is some basic useful command for Putty SSH Client user:

Transfer one server to another server:

Lets think you want to transfer sitepack.tar from from different server to your server.
Command line: wget yourdomain.com/sitepack.tar

 

For Delete folder
————————
rm -rf foldername

See list of files
——————–
ls
For Creating tar file
——————————
tar cvf folder_name.tar folder_name
For Extracting tar file
——————————-
tar -xf folder_name.tar
For going back to root folder
—————————————-
cd
for going back one step
——————————–
cd ..

move file or folder from one folder to another folder

————————————————————————–
mv filename foldername/

 

How to exit from Putty Command line:
——————————————————-
exit
